My Term is Almost Over
Unfortunately, my one-year term as a Kid Governor Cabinet Member has almost ended. It was a fun and exciting experience to have this opportunity. I got to know a lot of new people, learn more about the government of the United States, and of course, try to increase friendships in schools. I would highly recommend that anyone who can join Oregon’s Kid Governor join it. Since my one-year term has ended, I will leave some challenges in this blog for you to try to make more friends.
Challenges
Making friends is a very important thing, and it’s not really that hard! All you must do is go up to someone and ask them if they want to spend recess with you in school. I highly encourage you to challenge yourself to do this as many times as you can in a week or month. Count how many times you ask someone to play with you at recess in the month or week time. In the next month or week, try to beat your high score. Making friends is not the easiest thing, but it is also not too hard.
Being kind makes people want to be friends with you. It is a great step towards creating a new friendship. Kindness does not have to be something big, just a smile or holding the door open for someone.
Another fantastic way to make friends is to do group projects with them. If we do group projects with the same people every time that we already know and are friends with, we will not make new friends. However, if we choose to be in a group with new people in every group project, we will get to know new people, opening opportunities for us to make more friends.
As you can see, it is not that hard to make new friends, so try to get to know new people all the time.
Another easy thing you can do that I did to increase friendship in your school is to arrange a quick 5-minute meeting with your principal. Talk to your principal about things and tools to add to your school that would help students make friends. My ideas were the Friendship Club, the Buddy Bench, and the independent recess area. You can talk about these with your principal, and you can also create a new step towards increasing friendships in schools.
Thank you for reading and I hope you make many more friends!
